March 25, 2009 – In spite of global air transportation industry losses of US$4.7 billion in 2009,The International Air Transport Association (IATA) reported yesterday that carriers in the North American region are expected to have the best combined performance for 2009 with US$100 million profit. The fall in passenger demand was managed with a matching 7.5% decrease in capacity. This measure, lower spot fuel prices, and exploration of other cost saving measures is benefiting carriers in the region.
